Something missed in the side by side comparison is the handprints. Notice that both have handprints from kids, the blue and brown in the left one, the red in the right!

Good point whit. I didn't remember that at all.

I'm not sure whether it's a daydream or Future Ted thinking about it with a different perspective. From what I understand, it's not like Future Ted is telling his kids every detail we see on TV. My understanding, and I could be wrong, is that we're sorta in Future Ted's mind. So we see what he sees even though he only tells his kids bits and pieces of the story.

Also, a similar scene shows up in Season 2 (S02E15 Lucky Penny ~20 min into it) after Ted misses a flight to Chicago. But, the exact clip is from the episode you mentioned (S01E21)

The episode where Ted is contacted by the matchmaking company and has a date to meet "the perfect girl", right before he goes in he imagines his wedding and looking from his bride, to where Robin sits on the first row. He then realizes he wants Robin and leaves. This "flashback" could be a flashback to daydream just as well as the reality. The scenes are def. the same.

(season 1, episode 21 "milk")

Yeah, I remember that coming up in the rebound bro episode.

I've taken a closer look at the two scenes and I think it's safe to say the actual handwritten note may be the same, but the frame it's held in definitely isn't. In 2030, the handwritten note is framed with a picture. In 2008, it's in a single frame.

Based on that information, I'm inclined to believe that it was a prop decision rather than a clue.

Take a look at the screenshots I took:
<a href="http://bayimg.com/LajiCAABj" rel="nofollow">
CLOSE UP OF BOTH HANDWRITTEN NOTES</a>
<a href="http://bayimg.com/LaJIEAABJ" rel="nofollow">
THE LARGE SIDE-BY-SIDE COMPARISON

I can't remember where I saw it, but someone has been pointing to the picture on the mantle in the "future" scenes with his kids, and a picture (more like a printing of some unreadable text) on the mantle of Stella's place one or two episodes ago.
