What happened to Teenage Burt and Young Virginia? This week, Garret Dillahunt and Martha Plimpton put on wigs and became younger version of their characters from 1992. Perhaps it was because the majority of the episode was shot in flashback that the teenagers would have been the stars of the episode. But, I missed seeing the continuity.
Most of the episode takes place in 1992 when Burt runs off with a hippie named Jack (Sean Bridgers) and Victoria briefly dates the short cop named Ross (Whit Hertferd.) We get to see Maw Maw lucid enough to try to break up the strong bond that Burt & Victoria have and Jimmy being mistreated by everyone in his life. It’s always nice to have Maw Maw have her wits about her and she was probably the meanest grandmother you’d ever find. She was the one purposefully trying to feed Jimmy sugar and get Burt & Victoria out of the house. Maw Maw is almost too smart for the family. When she’s lucid, no one can match her conniving ways.
It looks like last week’s reveal that Sabrina’s family is incredibly wealthy was completely forgotten. Perhaps they’ll touch on it again at some point, but there was no mention of it this week. At least she’s still dating her college boyfriend. I’m liking the bold, Maw Maw-like ways Jimmy is trying to end their relationship. Deleting Wyatt’s text message was the next step to what will ultimately be a relationship between Sabrina and Jimmy.
The most adorable part of the show was Hope running around as a gorilla knocking down a fake city. It was so cute, but also a side-note. I loved how that just reminded Burt that he was craving bananas. Every week this show has been great. This show is slowly crawling up the ranks and could very well be the best sitcom on TV right now. Community is very, very funny, but Raising Hope is consistently better this season.
Spoonfuls (Thoughts in Smaller Portions):
1. How Old is Maw Maw?
This week we found out that Maw Maw is 85 years old.
2. Jack’s Ponytail’s name…
Anyone catch it? It’s called Madness. Sure is.
3. The Amigos de Garcia Productions Quote of the Episode
This week it sounded like Greg Garcia’s son saying, “Adios Amigos”
